Setting Forth
Creating Novelty
Dear Subscribers, followers and friends,
Changes, changes, but first I thank you deeply for your ongoing interest and support.
This has meant a great deal to me as I have migrated out of a seven year immersion in Gage Gallery Arts Collective. And, as life would have it, I closed my Malaview Avenue art studio in Sidney after five years, and moved it to our new home, all in the same month.
Although my new studio was functional almost immediately, my paint brushes have stayed dry for much of this intervening time. I have struggled to answer ‘Why?’, even to myself.
What I have done is start a new Substack newsletter, called Book Companions, which captures my renewed interest in literature and reading deeply. Please click on the link, have a look and subscribe, for free.
This morning I completed my most satisfying-to-write newsletter yet,
which captures both art news and book news, plus a little of life in general. Take a look. I think this will move me towards an amalgamation of the two newsletters at some point. But regardless of the format, I hope you will continue your interest in my evolving work, and furthermore, comment about yours. This could be a place for that, and I would be honoured.
Here is Setting Forth , from my Pilgrimage series, setting the tone for braiding the new with the old and creating novelty, in the flow.
In the meantime, I wish you well in your art-making, book-reading and life in-between.
Anita

I like this painting Anita. When I saw it in the Victoria gallery I was surprised to find that it
was yours! I'd like to hear about how you found the softness, and the rolling'ness, and the all-
over-the-canvas looseness that I don't usually see in your work. Start there for me please, and peel the onion back, and see where you end up. Sending love.
The painting is beautiful as is your sentiment.
