Let me start by saying…I Have No Idea Why Anyone Would Ask Me for Relationship Advice!
I genuinely don’t know why anyone would come to me for relationship advice. I don’t have it all figured out. I’m not even currently in a relationship. I’ve been married twice. Clearly, I have not cracked some secret code that the rest of the world is missing.
I’m not a therapist. I’m not a relationship coach. I don’t sit around reading attachment theory for fun. Yet…today, one of my followers messaged me and asked my thoughts on whether men should be more dominant or more submissive in relationships.
Of all people. Me?? 🤷♀️
But the question stuck with me. Not because I think I have the final answer, but because I do have thoughts. And sometimes that’s all any of us really have, right? I thought it was a topic worth exploring and discussing further.
Dominance Isn’t the Word I’d Use
I don’t believe in dominance. I believe in strength. I believe men are meant to lead with strength—and yes, that’s biblical, but not in the warped, weaponized way people like to throw around. Not in a controlling or abusive way, but in a loving, protective way that always considers the emotional safety of the woman beside him.
Safety Changes Everything
Here’s the part people get uncomfortable with, but I’m just going to say it.
I believe very strongly that most women want to safely submit to a man they trust. Not because they’re weak, not because they aren’t able to lead themselves, but because they don’t want to have to be in survival mode all the time. The problem is that too few men have been shown how to lead well—with humility, steadiness, and care. And that, to me, is tragic.
I think that most women want to feel safe enough to soften, safe enough to trust, and yes, safe enough to submit. There’s a difference between submission and surrendering your autonomy. One is relational, the other is dangerous.
When a woman feels emotionally safe, physically safe, spiritually safe—when she knows she’s being protected, not managed—something shifts. Trust grows, and the connection deepens. She doesn’t have to stay armored.
That kind of dynamic doesn’t come from dominance, it comes from strength that’s well-controlled.
The problem isn’t that women don’t want strong men, it’s that many men were never taught how to lead without controlling, and many women—having felt unsafe for too long—learned how to harden, overfunction, or emasculate instead. We adapted to what was missing. And the result is a dynamic where neither side feels truly at ease. That’s the tragedy.
Somewhere along the way, leadership got confused with dominance, masculinity got confused with aggression, and consideration got mislabeled as weakness.
So now we’re left with extremes: Men either dominate or disappear. Women either control or shut down. But when both people are stuck protecting themselves, there’s no room left to relax into partnership.
I’m not writing this from some place of arrival. I’m writing it from lived experience, observation, and a lot of reflection. I’ve seen what doesn’t work. I’ve felt the difference between control and protection. Between being managed and being cherished.
I don’t have all the answers, and have never claimed to.
But I do know this: Strength that loves, protects, listens, and considers the heart of the woman beside him will always be more powerful than dominance ever could be.
A woman reciprocates that kind of strength by choosing respect over criticism, trust over control, and openness over her armor. Leadership and submission only work when both are freely given.

About the Author:
Kimberly Overton, BSN, RN, BC-FMP, is a Registered Nurse, entrepreneur, and fierce advocate for medical freedom and informed consent. With a background in critical care and acute patient management, she bore witness to the systemic failures of a healthcare system corrupted by profit-driven protocols—protocols that led to medical murders disguised as care.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kimberly made the bold decision to resign from traditional bedside nursing, standing in protest against coercive mandates, the unethical use of Remdesivir, and the rollout of dangerous, ineffective COVID “vaccines.” This defining moment propelled her to establish Nurse Freedom Network, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering nurses, safeguarding patient rights, and exposing corruption within the healthcare system.
Today, she continues her mission at the bedside as a Hospice nurse, where she brings dignity, presence, and compassion to the end-of-life journey—honoring the sacred transition and advocating for comfort, truth, and informed decisions. Her experience in hospice care further reinforces the importance of understanding every medical intervention and upholding the nurse’s role as a protector of patient safety and peace.
Expanding on her mission, she launched Remnant Healthcare, providing holistic, patient-centered alternatives that honor medical autonomy, informed consent, and compassionate care. As host of The Nurses of America Out Loud, Kimberly amplifies the movement for healthcare reform, medical freedom, and the unwavering defense of human dignity.
Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and now residing in Hendersonville, Tennessee, her mission is to disrupt the broken system, hold the profiteers accountable, and reclaim healthcare on a foundation of truth, ethics, and respect for human life—restoring humanity to the healing profession.
