Pathologic 3 (USD$34.99) by Ice-Pick Lodge

The Pathologic series is one dear to my heart and it’s wonderful to finally play the latest instalment in the series. Despite appearing to be a numbered sequel, this is a retelling of the story of Daniil Dankovsky, a doctor from the Capital attempting to further his research on death, plans that quickly get derailed by the advent of a plague. Part management and medical sim, part survival horror, all deeply narrative and philosophy-driven with an emphasis on fixing your past mistakes and transgressions. Pathologic 3 continues the series’ legacy with the same love and attention to detail that made the previous games so special.

With that, another year is done and dusted. Here are the games I played and loved in 2025:

Dogman95 by ComputerJames

A short, tongue-in cheek game about a canine knight sent to fulfill his quest by exploring a dungeon. Much like ComputerJames’ previous game, Dashcam, this one has a delightfully irreverent sense of humour.

The Shaman, the Outsider, and the Diet of Worms by LITHOBREAKERS

Not so much a game as a dive into a (fictional) publication. Read through the wiki article, its discussion as well the manuscript itself and connect the ideas presented within. A wonderful exploration into how and why we use written communication in ways that we often take for granted, presented in a way that feels incredibly real.

The Anders Cyclopaedia by Alexandria

A demo for an intriguing game set in the parallel universe of Anders. Study the information and document your findings in the supplied compendium PDF while deducing the mysteries of the world before you. I love that this game engages you with an additional resource (the compendium) which furthers the immersion of its rich and beautiful world.

Fused 240 by Mike Klubnika

Face a bleak and nightmarish existence in a world where man and the inorganic have fused. This is one that will stay with me for a long time.

GRUBBY FINGERS (USD$4.99) by tober

The surreal scratchie simulator of your dreams is here. Win funds on your tickets, buy new ones, and you might eventually earn enough to escape the mysterious gas station you’re trapped in.

PARAEDOLON by KIRA

Experience the moments leading up to an asteroid coming to earth. Is what you’re seeing reality, or is it the result of a bad drug trip?

LONDON JERRY: FREELANCE MAILMAN by prophet goddess

A turn-based simulator that has you delivering all manner of mail to every corner of the planet. Great fun with a sense of self-deprecating humour.

LIGHT-BRINGER by MARED JURPHY

A surreal and chaotic critique about the state of Christianity in America. Featuring a mix of gameplay genres and an awesome soundtrack (if you’re into harsh noise), this is a trip that’s also food for thought.

Testimonium by notsospecialgames

A short analog horror nightmare about looping between your apartment to a hellish world of rust, blood, and ritual. Short, effective and disturbing.

RUIN: Chapter 0 by OFFICIAL ⚡ ELECTRIC

An interactive fiction project lurking in the files of an old video game. Often cryptic, bordering on incomprehensible, while featuring incredible visuals and soundtrack.
